From the day the iPad appeared all I’ve really wanted is to eliminate my writing pad. I have tried so many apps and stylus’ with my various iPad models and sizes, but I always reverted to a notebook and pen to develop new programs, journal or write a study card for my students. I had almost given up hope.
Until now …
With Apple’s quiet announcement last week reducing iPad mini’s I have accepted that I need to go back to a 9.7 inch iPad and have bought a shiny new iPad Pro – it is a lovely machine and the pen feels lovely to hold. Now it was time to find the app that would let be “write” on the iPad with a “pen” and then have functionality to convert to typed text, be editable, emailed …
I played with a few – none were horrible, but my absolute standout is Nebo from myScript! This is a beautiful app. I can change the nib width and colours to write and there are faint lines to keep me straight. But, by far and away my most favourite thing about this app is it’s accuracy for converting my handwriting (which is not spectacular – my mum will forever blame my Kindergarten teacher this this) with two taps on the screen.
I’ve had a hard time recommending stylus’ and writing for my students using the iPad – because I couldn’t find a successful way forward for me it just didn’t feel right to try this method with them.
But now, I think I can finally see a way to throw out my notepad and start to offer this as a real alternative for my students.
PS – the app is free (even is the Apple pencil isn’t)
